On a month-to-month foundation, retail gross sales elevated 1.0% from June to July (seasonally adjusted), and gross sales have been up 2.7 % from July 2023.
From the Census Bureau report:
Advance estimates of U.S. retail and meals companies gross sales for July 2024, adjusted for seasonal variation and vacation and trading-day variations, however not for value adjustments, have been $709.7 billion, a rise of 1.0% from the earlier month, and up 2.7 % from July 2023. … The Could 2024 to June 2024 % change was revised from nearly unchanged to down 0.2 %.

Retail gross sales ex-gasoline have been up 1.0% in July.
The second graph reveals the year-over-year change in retail gross sales and meals service (ex-gasoline) since 1993.
Retail and Meals service gross sales, ex-gasoline, elevated by 2.9% on a YoY foundation.
The change in gross sales in July was above expectations, nonetheless gross sales in Could and June have been revised down.
