Microsoft introduced on Tuesday throughout its annual Construct convention that it’s bringing “Windows Volumetric Apps” to Meta Quest headsets. The partnership will enable Microsoft to carry Home windows 365 and native PC connectivity to Quest headsets, enabling builders to increase their apps into the 3D house.
“We’re deepening our partnership with Meta to make Windows a first-class experience on Quest devices,” stated Microsoft’s Company Vice President of Home windows and Units Pavan Davuluri through the occasion. “Windows can take advantage of Quest’s unique capabilities to extend Windows apps into 3D space.”
Builders can join the developer preview right this moment to obtain entry to a “volumetric API.” Microsoft says the extension will enable customers to reinforce spatial understanding with out leaving the app that powers their work.
The sign-up web page says Microsoft is in search of builders that “produce or provide plug-ins for 3D Windows desktop applications or customers that work with 3D applications on Windows desktop applications who are interested in extending those applications into 3D content with mixed reality.”
Microsoft is already working with Meta to create a restricted version Meta Quest VR headset that’s impressed by the Xbox. Plus, the corporate launched Microsoft 365 productiveness experiences from Phrase, Excel and PowerPoint on the Quest final December.
