Air New Zealand Bolsters Sustainability Panel with Local weather Coverage and Aviation Experience

Air New Zealand is delighted to announce the addition of two distinguished figures to its Sustainability Advisory Panel: James Shaw, former Co-Chief of the Inexperienced Celebration and Minister for Local weather Change, and Matteo Mirolo, who leads Coverage and Technique for the Aviation Contrails crew at Breakthrough Power, a climate-focused power startup backed by Invoice Gates.

Air New Zealand’s Chief Sustainability Officer, Kiri Hannifin, highlighted the transformative impression of James Shaw’s work on New Zealand’s decrease carbon future via his advocacy of the Zero Carbon Act and his fervent dedication to addressing local weather change all through his political tenure.

Mr Shaw says “I am really pleased to be joining the Air New Zealand Sustainability Advisory Panel at a time when the airline and the entire industry face the huge challenge of transitioning to net-zero.  Air New Zealand has for many years demonstrated that they are not shy about engaging with this challenge and, in fact, want to lead on it. My aim will be to both challenge and support the airline to go first and show the way.”

Mr Shaw joins the panel following the current resignation of Sam Mostyn AO as Panel Chair, resulting from her appointment as Governor-Normal of Australia.

“We’re so proud of Sam and thank her wholeheartedly for the significant role she has played in Air New Zealand’s sustainability journey,” says Ms Hannifin.

“Her appointment as Governor-General reflects the high level of integrity and authenticity she brings to her work, and we wish her all the best as she transitions to her new role.”

In March, Air New Zealand prolonged a heat welcome to Matteo Mirolo as a brand new member of its Sustainability Advisory Panel.

Matteo’s present position revolves round spearheading analysis efforts on contrails and non-CO2 aviation emissions. Previous to this place, Matteo served because the Aviation Supervisor at Transport and Atmosphere, the most important transport non-governmental group within the European Union. There, he directed their aviation program, with a particular give attention to sustainable aviation gasoline.

“Being Europe-based, Matteo brings not only his considerable expertise to the table but also a vital international context and best practice which Air New Zealand is eager to understand and learn from,” says Ms Hannifin.

The Sustainability Advisory Panel of Air New Zealand performs a pivotal position in providing steerage to the airline’s sustainability crew, Govt, and Board.
